James Paul Thompson
After teaching studio art and art education classes for 40 years, Thompson retired from teaching in 2016.
His early art teaching assignments included middle and high school levels, followed by professorships at Olivet Nazarene University, Illinois State University, and most recently, Azusa Pacific University.
Thompson's passion for teaching art began as a college sophomore and immediately following graduation from Pasadena
College in 1969, PC/PLNU, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps using his art talents with the assigned M.O.S.#1461: Illustrator.
His latest art exhibit was in November, 2019, at Point Loma Nazarene University, titled: Tapestry, 50 Years Later.
Thompson (J. Paul) has enjoyed several years of art education holding a BA degree in Art from Pasadena College, MA degree in Drawing and Painting from Cal State University, Long Beach, and an Ed.D. in Art Education from Illinois State University where he studied historic and contemporary Raku pottery.
His love for the visual arts began in elementary school inspired by his fourth grade teacher encouraging him to draw. He did that, and presently continues to work in an array of mediums including water color, oil painting, assemblage, acrylic painting, and mixed
medium works.
